WE have the power...

Yesterday was one of the most tiring days of my life...I was about to collapse! I swear...I could barely do anything around the house...
What made it harder was Jeeej's phone call telling me he will be a couple of hours late at work, which meant continuous suffering for me...

Mariyah woke up really early yesterday having some gas in her stomach, and then took a nap for less than 2 hours! Then she stayed awake from 12 pm until 10:30 pm!! This is not common for babies her age!

Nothing was calming her down except for eating! I mean nothing! I made sure I clean her every now and then, I sang for her, I played with her, I walked her, I fed her and fed her and if anybody saw her eating would have thought she was starving, but she was not...actually she kept spitting every once in a while which means she was full!

When Jeeej came, he calmed her down by rocking her on the chair, and she slept after crying her heart out! Then she woke up after 30 min., crying! I was starting to lose it...She broke my heart, I started crying! Nothing was working!
Then, sometime around 10 pm, Jeeej decided that we have the power over her, she can't beat us! lol...

He wrapped her tightly -she HATES it, so we never do it!- and walked her, then on the rocking chair...she was crying SO LOUD all the time...and then she slept...at 10:30 pm!!!
He made me sleep at the same time...and the best part was waking up after almost 8 hours of continuous sleeping!

I haven't had this luxury -8 hours of sleep- since last February!!
From now on, WRAPPING IS THE BEST AND WE HAVE THE POWER!

For the record...I was brave enough today to cut her nails! For the 1st time :p
Jeeej did it the 1st time, just like changing her and cleaning her and bathing her and everything else:p

7abibti,as I was leaving to Beirut this last time, a relative of mine asked me to buy her a medicine for gas for her baby, which you can find over the counter. She requested "Mylocon"..sorry if I spelled it wrong but she swears by it, and it's for this age..Ask the pharmacist or her doctor..it won't hurt..

Nido, i think i mentioned it to you before you had Mariyah that wrapping babies in the "Kofalyyeh" helps calming them down?? even if she hates it, she will calm down! so you guys have the power to decide and she cannot control your lives! :)
allah yekhalleeha, she is so cute in that purple dress Masahllah!

One more thing about Gas and babies, fill up the sink with warm water and let her soak in it for a while, at the same time massage her tummy with your palm, she will calm down and rest! babies take a lot of work to raise. have a great time raising her and enjoy every minute of it, this will be memory soon!

Noura: halla2 ana baz3al minnik!! Mama told me once that I should be maw2if 2owweh, not da3f...--Imahine my daughter reading this one day :p--

From now on, wrapping only! even if it was too hot for her! Just like she was inside me :)
Thanks for the advice...Im not into medications at this stage, but I will see about it :)

Summer: Yea I remember...and not only you...everyone...even mama sent me kofaleyyeh thinking that I dont know what it is :p But we always refused to use it thinking that it would limit her movement and development and saying that it's too hot for her to be wrapped!
But no more :) Thanks for the advice too!

try to run th ewater really strong in the kitchen and see if this calming noise will help her to calm down...i used to take my son crying his lungs out to the kitchen to get his bottle, but while runnig the water, he would simply STOP crying...out of the blues, then i baught him one of those white noise maker, like they use in offices to relax, like water fall or wave sounds and it really worked every time he cried!! and wrapping her tight helps too, but i never tried it with my kid since i couldnot help it. good luck!!

Allah ya3teekom il3afieh both of you.

There's a book that changed my life when I had my little girl. It's called "the happiest baby on the block". It talked about warping the baby and other stuff that calms them.

You HAVE to READ it. Trust me on this one. I even saw the doctor/author on TV using his method and it was like magic. Try it , you won't lose anything.

Yalah ya3teekom il3afieh and my turn is coming up soon and I am TERRIFIED. It's been 4 years since I took care of a baby. Bas yallah i7na kaman will have the power. LOL.

aw poor nido..it is so frustrating when u dont know what they want...swaddling is a great comfort for babies...it reminds them of the womb..maybe she is going through a growth spurt..they go through the most horrible one at 6wks...all they want to do is eat eat eat....and try the gas medicine...oval worked great on my kids...i have to stock up on those..

Tamara: la tkhalli il mazahir tghorrik!! hehehehe...binti za3ra ;)
As for the gas, I decided not to ever have this amount of broccoli 3ala wa23a wa7deh ! hehe...this is the best solution! Thanks for the tip !

Vagueraz: Mazloomeh binti :D hehe...Yea, they are really smart...you can tell from their tone while crying! You say, this is a real cry and that's a fake one, lol

Afaf: she loves the sound of water, but I didn't mention that I have done this! I put her in her bouncer in the bathroom while I was taking a shower, it didn't work! I even gave her a bath trying to calm her down, cuz it usually makes her sleep, but it didn't work! I tell you, it was a nightmare! bas hamdilla,,,wrapping makes miracles :)

Dandoun: Yea! We have the power! hehe...Allah yi3afeeki...I will get the book for sure and will let u know about it ;)
As for you, you have been through this before, so inshallah it's gonna be easier with the second baby...this is what mama told me! it's always hard with the 1st one! Good luck:D

Sam: I never heard of this growth spurt! but maybe...who knows...
I tell you, I kept wondering what she wanted! It was driving me crazy! hamdillah 3ala salamti :p

The 6 week growth spurt is true. My little one at 6 weeks went nuts and wouldn't stop crying no matter what and ate SOOOOOO much.

Babies have cycles :) .

And mamti said she will come help me so inshallah it will be easy. 7aram nido la7alek :(

nido check the growth spurt info on baby center...there are more coming up...my kids still go through growth spurts..where they eat everything in the house and then a bit later they are noticable bigger...so annoying!

dont feel bad mama didnt come when i had my kids(she lives 45min away)..well she came to stay with us when i had ziad...she planned on staying for 1-2wks..but i would not let her do anything except wash dishes and tidy up..so she got mad and went back home two days later...i didnt want to rely too much on her and then be clueless on what to do with the baby when she left...i think i hurt her feelings..but i am too much of an independent person....it is with your next children that you will need you mom! mama took ziad for 1 whole week when i had bilal ..it gave me time to bond with bilal and get to rest...and now she will take both boys when the baby comes inshallah...i dont care let them miss a week of school..:)

I am glad you have mentioned the growth spurt! I was reading about it now...it's interesting!

Some ladies here have been telling me the same, that it's sometimes better not to have my mom with me...bas sob7an Allah, bani adam tamma3, we always look and ask for things we are missing, and complain about not having them!

its good that yr mom can take care of yr 2 babies now! Really good for u:) bissalameh Sam:)
